Could you give me some browser checks (and opinions if you like) on a LiveJournal layout I'm creating for a friend. She wanted something simple yet different from other LJ layouts. None of the links will work right now since I haven't actually transferred it to LJ yet so don't try to clickie.

I've already checked in IE and NN 6. I'd appreciate others. VP where are you with your dino-browsers?

Hey Krets. There are some nesting errors so NN4.7 will not display anything but that groovy background. Opera 5 has no problem with it though.

NN 4! Bah!

Works in Opera OK though, thats nice. Normally Opera is my downfall.

Thats a pretty basic page with only 3 main divs. One called "humongousdiv" that is responsible for the white strip down the center and two others called "maindiv" and "bottomdiv" that are for the entries and the bottom navigation. If netscape can't even support that, fuck em!

No dude, it will work in NN4.7, not that great because NN4.7 doesn't like for you to tell it how wide or long to make the div but it will work. There are just some div's that are not closed off and then there are some <tr's> that are not right.

Here, check this out. http://home.mindspring.com/~curtadkins/krets.html

Here's the finished page. The original is pretty sloppy because you have to chop it all up when you create your LiveJournal layout. Those tr's and divs are fixed now....

I guess that used to be her dad's CB handle when he was a truck driver.

She's actually Ukranian.

krets: Its a nice page I'm just not sure what you are using mainDiv for in fact if you aren't interested in it looking great in NS4.x the code could be simplified a lot eliminating the nested DIVs and the need for tables. And just to be boring and predicatble you might also want to put in keyword and description metatags.

Because of the way LiveJournal builds its pages I had to build it like that because LJ chops up the code and then reassembles the page. I had to use the two nested divs in order to keep the nav thingie at the bottom as she updates her journal entries.

I kinda left the keywords out because I'm not sure what exactly she'd want.

Thanks for the input though. Sometimes for LiveJournal pages you have to do things a little bass-ackwards.

hey krets!
you had me disappointed - i thought i was getting a chance to review YOUR new site!
this one looks quite nice tho - simple.
a few little things:
1) can you do me a favour, and put the "a:hover" stylesheet info after the "a:visited" info? that way the colour will always change onmouseover, instead of the way it is now.
2) another thing about the hover - personally, i don't like it when the text fades like that when the mouse goes over it - it looks like it isn't an option. if it's somewhere i can go, i would rather it become a focal point on the screen when i put my mouse on it. maybe that's just me tho.
3) stylin' background, man! i'd kill to have a shirt like that!
okay, that's it!

Thanks bunch. I didn't even notice I'd put the visited under the hover. Ooopsie.

Just be happy I didn't go with the initial format for the links where on hover they became the same color as the background and totally disappeared.

And I do have a shirt like that!
