I have searched the web high and low seeking what seems to be the elusive postage stamp tutorial. Does anyone know if such a beast exists anywhere, or has it become extinct? Thank-you for any assistance. MG

First things first, nobody's weird enough to make a tutorial for every real life item on this earth. So, on occasions where you can't find a tutorial for something you want to make (this might happen more often than you'd think) you'll have to figure out a way to do it yourself.

Stamp edges? Do you mean the cut lines of a stamp? Well, get one, and check how it looks like. It's simply a rectangular piece of paper, with half-circles cut out of it. Simply make a rectangular selection, and fill it with white. then, make a circular selection, move it to the edge of your stamp and start cutting out circles using the [delete] button.

Or am I thinking way too simple here? This is just my

There is the even easyer if you have PS7 or maybe 6, check out the shape tool, there are many premade shapes all ready defined. It's a little less flexable but works well enough.

Or, you can create a path around the *stamp* and stroke it with the eraser. Adjust eraser size and spacing to suit.
See this brilliant piece of work for more info.

Ahh, DB beat me to it.

I would also like to once again point out the tutorial dependence is a problem that can be easily remedied. Just remember that what you want to learn from a tutorial is a technique and an understanding of the tools, rather than just a way to create a certain effect.

For example, I once needed to make a cogwheel and pointed out to warjournal that his tutorial was a big help in that. He was a bit dubious because of some of the limitations of stroking a path and how the radial spacing would work, but here's the result:

And, as always:
play. fiddle. learn.

Good advice there.

Alas, you force the truth out of me...I'm a tutorial addict.

I've been to several "tutorial anonymous" meetings, and they help ...for a while.
I've really, really tried to to be photoshop self reliant.., honest.., but along comes a graphic problem and, oh I hate admitting this: I reach for the quick fix of a tutorial. Oh how I've tried to restrain myself, to no avail. You know how it is, don't you?

But, this is a new day and I shall use the tutorial no more. Be gone you unimaginative crutch!

(Oh Mahjqa, thanks for the mini tutorial. It helped : )

That just means you're reading the wrong tutorials.

If your intention is to find a tutorial that shows you how to make a postage stamp, then it is logical to assume these are the kinds of tutorials you generally use - useless.

You need to find some tutorials that actually *teach* you something.

It just so happens that two of the gretest collections of such tutorials are linked to at the bottom of every page here at the Asylum. Check them out.

By the way, I've tried the "Multi-stroke" tutorial found on Guru's Network several times. But I've not been able to get even the first example to work at all. Nothing at all occurs when the paintbrush or the erasure is applied to the path.

I noticed the descriptions for the buttons are different than the button flyout descriptions on PS 5.5 I'm using, so maybe it's written for a different version.

It's probably good, but if I'm unable to get it to work then I must move on to another, ergo my recent post requesting assistance.

Thanks much,

MG

Warjournal's tutorial was written in a PS 5x environment. Should work for you.
Try it again.
