I just want to know if it is holiday tomorrow in your country.
In New Zeland it is off tomorrow because of Queen's birthday.
But funny thing is that my English firend told me it was not in UK.
How about your country???

Well, here in the US, we really don't care about the Queen's birthday, since we don't have a queen. We don't really care about the president's birthday either.
Some of us get our own birthday off, but that's not a given either.

Hi, how are you doing?
I don't care about Queen's birthday either.
Just funny.
New Zealander takes days off to celebrate British Queen evern though Bristish people don't take off.
But people just want to have fun not to celebrate, you know.

Ps. New Zeland calender shows Australian holiday as well. It makes me really confused. I thought next Monday is off as well. But it is Australian holiday. Hmm....a bit annoying...

The Queen has an official ceremonial type birthday, and a real one. So the holiday is for her official one.

Hello Hiroki,
I live in the uk and I find that most people are delighted to have any day as a holiday, be it the queens birthday, or even the dogs birthday.
Does New Zealand have any other national symbols associated with the British? For instance what side of the road do you drive on right or left, or is the mail service called the Royal Mail, as it is here?
Personally speaking I am constantly embarrased by the exsistance of the royal family. Especially when they visit other countries. Prince Phillip has no idea of diplomacy. The whole lot of them (the royal family) have lived such pampered sheltered lives that they have lost touch with any sense of reality and the only thing that they represent is the exploitation of people, especially the poor, to the benifit of the rich, at home and abroad.
I am always wary of nationalism, and dislike fanatics of any persuasion.
(or am I in danger of sounding like a fanatic)?
I would love to visit NZ it looks like a wonderful place to live.

Hi, Taobaybee. Hi, Yannah.
Well, honestly I cannot tell the difference between Aussie flag and kiwi flag. I have been living here for nearly two years. Both of them are too close to tell the difference.
Only difference is one of them gets a star beside surthern cross, right? I don't know which got 4 plus one. Never mind.

And we drive on the left side of the road, Taobaybee. Mail service is just mail service, I reckon. I don't know about British royal family. All I know was that Princes Diana was loved by a lot of people in my counrty.

All right. Better go. Cya.

Ps. New Zealand is lovely counrty, Taobaybee. Please come and visit. You will love it.

The road, government:australia and Nz don't have kings and queens but part of the British monarchyk? how come you don't know any of these facts about your country?
Even though I wasn't born here, I still know many about it's history.

Seems wrong somehow :P

I'm very much a republican, and think the Queen's birthday is absolutely nothing to get excited about, except for her and her family.
The only impact it will have on my life is the mild annoyance at seeing the papers/tv filled up with pomp and circumstance when they could be telling us something important... or is that an oxymoron?

I'm always baffled by the fact that Britain *has* a queen at all. Haven't enough royal families been executed and deposed and driven into hiding in france to make them think that they should just give it up?

Maybe move into the modern world a little bit....?

England is not the only country to have a monarchy DL, actually it's also the case of Spain and Belgium.

And yes it's old-styled... But you know, we like our "old Europe"

Ia brit, living in Holland, and here there's a real celebration for the queen's birthday. The streets of Den Haag go orange for a night with music, beer, dancing, beer, tens of thousands of happy Netherlanders ... and beer. The people here seem to love their quen very much, probably because she's a "real person" not a bunch of starchy old has-beens still living in the 18th century like our British lot.

Funny about NZ, Oz and Canada though ... all independant for many years, but all still showing loyalty and respect to the old gal herself. I dunno about NZ or Oz, but certainly in Canada her head still appears on the currency ... after a half century (was it?) of independence. I reckon eith those Canuks are either too lazy to change the printing presses at the mint, or else they're so tight they don't spend the money enough to wear it out ... ay?
