This is my second attempt at a Sig, the first one I had messed up Transparently Eventually I would like water reflections. Any suggestions ?

Oh well back to the tutorial What are the most popular/effective methods for creating animated SiGs. I have seen many gorgeous examples in these forums?
Help greatly appreciated.

search the faq for anything containing 'mahjqa'... you'll find plenty

Some crit's on your sig first; It's a nice one. The colors work, it's got your name on it, original and nice, Take a look at this tutorial to make it look nice on both backgrounds and you've got a keeper. The layer effects are a little simple, but it's not that bad.

Over to your animation question:

I'm working on an 'introduction tutorial' for users who want to start using Imageready (It's, in my humble opinion, the best program for making animated gifs) but as that one's not ready yet, I'll link some animation tutorials in the FAQ:

This one's the best to start off with, in my opinion. It does not have any pictures, but don't let that scare you off, it's easy to understand, and written step-by-step. Basically no PS or IR experience necessary. The result looks like this:

It isn't really a tutorial. I've provided links to the PSD's I used to make it with, and some information on how I did it. Some experience with both Photoshop and Imageready is recommended, however.

Taobaybee: Have you tried the sig with the yin-yang at the same height as the rest of the letters? I'm just wondering if that might not look a little more balanced...

Mahjqa, I'm going to work through all of the suggested links now. I am due to go offline soon(ish) as I am moving home, so if you don't see a post from me with some of my efforts for a while, that will be the reason. I Lurve PS7 and spend many a happy day or two playing in it, but this will be my 1st proper venture into ImageReady Land ,,,,,, I can't wait.
Your help and advice are greatly appreceiated.

The lighting in the reflection is completely out of wack. Instead of transforming the layer and applying the same style to it, try this (you should have two layers of the same text):

1. Apply the style.
2. Clear the layer style by the following:
2a. Make a new layer.
2b. Link it to the layer that is going to be the reflection.
2c. Layer -> Merge Linked.
3. Transform at will.

Tao, be sure to specify the 'matte color' when you save it. It's the background where the sigs'going to be used on. if you fill in #2b0404, it'll work best on both the backgrounds of this asylum.

Ta ! Raptor great tip.. I've applied it here with a few other tweaks. As soon as I get the technique nailed I think I will try a diferent Style. Perhaps an animated water reflection ??

Hmm... the yin-yang is looking very weird, almost like you squished it rather than shrunk it down proportionately. It was a perfect circle before, but now it looks kind of lop-sided... I'm not sure why that would happen.

Yep you're right Suho I just don't know when to stop twiddlin' in PS.
Is it ok to keep posting my efforts here do you think, or is there a limit? Also how can I delete my "old" sigs from the server storage, anyone?

Think I may have messed yp with Hex#280404 instead of hex#2b0404????

Wow, funky... and yet still readable.

I wouldn't worry about too many sigs. If there really do get to be too many, we'll just drag you down to the basement and administer shock therapy to straighten you out...



As for removing old sigs from server storage... ah, I see you're using Jason's sig service. If you want him to remove some sigs I would send him (JKMabry, that is) an e-mail with the file names of those sigs you want deleted. I would also wait until you've settled on a sig here, though, since people are still going to be coming in and looking at your sigs.

[Edit: I almost forgot: if you're looking to do some more work on the yin-yang sig, you might want to try just making a new yin-yang at that size if you can't get anything else to work. Although I don't understand why a resize would deform it like that... you didn't just shrink it vertically, did you?]

Thanks Suho I followed your advice with the yinyang symbol here. I think I will go away and try my hand at ImageReady before i settle on an image. I'm trying to get as much in before an enforced downtime .....Hark at Moi !

OK, buddy, you need to get yourself down to the basement and into shock therapy.

And I think I just figured out why the yin-yang looks deformed: I'm pretty sure it's the shadow on the underside. The shadow color is so similar to the background that it looks like it's not there. At least that's what I think it is...

Hi all you crazy diamonds, at last I'm back online again. Time to test the latest sig, and search these forums for any tuts on a water reflection animation. I think I have seen really cool ones for mahjqa and moon shadow.

Hmm... this new one seems to be a bit chopped off, or flattened. It almost looks like you dropped the sig and it got dented. Did you drop it, by any chance?

You guessed it suho, I think I'm geneticaly clumsy heh. I also think that I've been spending so much time, while I have been offline, tweaking, testing, tuning and generally twadalling about with the sig, that I have lost focus. I don't really like the animation now myself. I think I may settle for a static image untill I find a good Tutorial on how to do an animated reflection, what do you think suho? Perhaps the golden yinyang without the blinkin' light??

mayhaps I will try to make the animation smoother by adding more frames before i attempt a redesign?

While I'm a sucker for animation, I'm also a sucker for simplicity. Might be kind of paradoxical, but that's the way I am.

So, um, what I'm trying to say is: yeah, give it a shot without the animation and see how it turns out.

I tend to the same opinion Suho, especially as the symbol I'm using as the main feature is the Taoist symbol of balance and simplicity. This one, I think, is the same as before without the animation. Thanks for the feedback Suho It is appreciated

Pls excuse my ignorance but is there a place to test out other tings than Sigs (like links, images, rants, heh, etc or is this it?
