So! As usual, I happen to be fighting with a few of my close friends, and things don't seem to be fitting in well with my life at the moment. In layman's terms, I'm feelin' dem blues.

And I'm poor, so booze and other herbal remedies are out of the question.

So how do you cope with the blues? A poll of sorts

Well, I'm listening to a classical station on the Internet now, and it seems to be working. Sort of. Usually I will listen to upbeat music when I'm feeling blue, but I'm working right now (er, at least I'm supposed to be working) and it's difficult to do that when listening to music that has lyrics.

Another thing I do is come hang out at the Asylum. That helps sometimes.

Of course, a favorite is exercise, and I'm just about to head out the door to the gym.

So there you have it: music, the Asylum, and exercise. I'm blasting my blues with both barrels.

I like to just go for a walk (in some mountains would be idle but down to the beach is more likely).

Listening to all the songs that you really love in a row is often a ood one too.

Portishead, Starsailor, JJ72, Radiohead, Chris Isaac(FB), Muse, Wilco, Wilco, Wilco, Wilco , Tom Waits, Achtung Baby, Coldplay......

...and oddly enough, the Presidents "Peaches"...

That and lots of long walks, preferably at night.

Shut everything off and read a good book. Something that you can get lost in. I'm not going to throw any qualifiers at you not knowing what you like. A nice rousing game of Diablo II has been able to take my mind off of things. Hehe.

Counting Crows - August and Everything After
Great cd for when you feel like that. Or at least for me. Then at night I just go lie on top of the water tower (actually just the frame of a water tower) out back of the house. One of the benefits of living in the middle of nowhere is the nice clear sky to lie under Even if I'm feeling down, I'll go and watch the satellites flying by for hours at a time.

Possible site of interest: http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/realtime/JPass/
Cool site to check out, just takes some time to figure out which satellites are where related to you. Can also follow the Space Station, the shuttle (when it's up), and MIR... Well, you used to be able to follow MIR

Go and sit by a river...and listen to the quiet babbling of the water...and the wind whispering through the trees...a few animal sounds inbetween...one can feel the 'life' bustling around oneself. That helps me. It's good to remember that life goes on....that this moment, too, will pass...

Sometimes we tend to take things much too seriously...re-connecting with nature helps dispel this.

I take the same route as Webshaman.....I will go off alone and just listen to things and it helps me to clear my mind and not worry about anyting else that is going on. Or I will go for a long drive and just listen to music and it helps me out a lot.

Sometimes I like to read little words of wisdom to make me think as well: http://www.dailyzen.com/

I listen to music. It's funny but I also listen to the Counting Crows August and Everything After when I am feeling blue. I also listen to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Music with a deep emotional impact seems to distract the blues.

If it is at night, I go for a walk and look at the stars and listen to the wind blow through the trees. Sometimes I get myself a treat like a flavored coffee or an ice cream cone.

Usually when I'm down, I will lash out at all of those who care for me. When I have completely alienated all of my friends, I will hole myself up into my dark room to lament and question why nobody seems to like me. Bathing becomes nonexistant and I don't really bother changing my clothes. I sit in my room watching television and playing computer games. The door to my room only opens up for the pizza delivery man.

njuice, you could give that a try. It's pretty inexpensive and works best if you don't have a job. Otherwise you'll lose it and that will hole you up for another month.

What I typically do when I'm feeling down is turn to my closest friend. She's always there for me to talk to, and I typically feel better after I do. Sometimes a good venting is all it takes

Since you're currently fighting with your closest friends, a beer may help. Also drowning myself in my hobbies (whatever I feel like at the time - hockey, ps, guitar, etc...) tends to get my mind off things

Kinda cool I come back and get so many replies. I'm over it, moved on, what have you... a paycheck does wonders to one's self esteem and happiness. That and a few good long walks. Real long. Seriousy. I got lost. For a day. And a half.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

Insider - Ouch, baby, very ouch...
Mike - Ajax clogs the nostral cavities, I prefer dried Windex on Salt Peter, gets the job done and cures sinuses like you wouldn't believe.
Cpk - Been there, done that. Forgot to kill it first, got the scars to prove it.
Emps, WebShamen, Indus - Muchos gracias, a good ol venture into nature helped more than I thought it would.
St. Seneca - You've just described my daily life, in happy mode.

Thanks again

Seriously, good to see things looking up for you, Njuice. Just keep in mind that we all get 'lost' sometimes...
