Topic: webmaster by decree (Page 1 of 1)

Okay, folks, so my company knows I dabble in HTML, JS, CGI, yadda, yadda; so they've decided to give me the burden, i mean, pleasure of creating and maintaining the company site. Fun, yeah?

Well, it's a PCS/ISP company, and it's a decent size for this island.

Anyway, the first is a page to give customers a starting point onto the WWW and to give a few local tidbits. This one I got to design myself with no management input.

The second is the actual company page. The coding, structure, and backend stuff is pretty smooth, IMO. And you can guess that the look and design was a management decision. I guess I can't blame them, since it has to be pulled up on a TV screen with this Web2u box we offer (think WebTV).

Ok, the first link I liked. Nice and clean, maybe a different 'red' tone for the sides, but all in all, good. However, the second link...almost don't know where to start. Looks like frames...I hate frames. Also, when one scrolls down, the menu disappears...I don't like that. Could you make it so that only the text scrolls? The 'rectangular' logo could be done better, IMHO.

Thanks, web. I'll work on fixing the rectangular thing.

The frames are definitely gonna go as soon as I get a chance.

Also, I could probably get the menu to stay where it is with a div. Thanks again for the comments.

For the first link:

1) Fix the logo. It should be a bit cleaner in there. The image looks flat and faded.

2) The colors are awful in combination. You have far too many colors. I think you could come up with a better color pallette for use here.

3) I am not too sure about the duel column for content. That is a bit scary, I am not sure what to make of it.

4) Instead of using just a mouse over maybe you should try to change the background of the different sections check out ALA for information on this. ( http://www.alistapart.com , they seem to be down so I can't get the direct link for you.)


The other site, not too cool. Could do a lot better with this one. Good luck with it.

the first link .. IMHO .. I just don't like it .. to much text crowded all over the place .. no graphics .. and no true color scheme .. you have black text with blue text with white text with maroon text with red text .. it just to crowded .. IMHO

the second link .. just like Web said .. Frames SUCK .. get them out of there .. I hate frames .. and hate is a strong word for me .. try a rollover with the links on the right .. and you have two different styles here .. you have wood looking bars at top and bottom .. with water looking graphic to the right .. ummm .. IMHO that's a no no .. and hard to mix in together to look right .. try a "splash" page that works tells the customer what the company is all about

Just a quick note: For the colors I would really use WebSafe Hex codes instead of "brown". On my computer it comes out a deep red or as RammStein says "moron"
