As long as you are happy with ASP then there is no good reason I can think of for going with Access. It sounds like you know how you want to develop the look and feel and it all sounds interesting. At some point you've got to finalise the design and really work on content but there doesn't seem any great rush so keep playing with the design, tweaking bits and posting your stages back here and it will pay dividends in the end!!
