Hi all,

Just to let those who interested know, my website is now back up and running.

Had major problems with my host (iSpeed), and some issues are still not resolved, but the majority of the site is working again.

Some more scripts and some major updating should be completed soon.

Bit of both C'...

I've changed the site quite a bit, and am now using a transparent IFRAME to load the documents. However, this seems to slow thins down quite a bit.

Anyone know of any ways to combat this..??

How did you write the words in the first version (not anymore available)?
They looked bevelled.
I didn't have a chance to look at the code, you changed the page first :-)

why dont you just tell people who arent using ie 5.5 to not bother wasting their time before putting your site up for "critique"? pets Opera so many stupid designers, so little time.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to design sites using DHTML, but the statement above kind of struck me as odd in light of the fact that the page only works in recent versions of IE. I would think that, given your stated goal, you would want to try to build a cross-browser page, or at least offer different versions of the page to different browsers. I understand how much of a pain in the neck that can be (which is why I gave up DHTML), but why alienate a decent portion of the people out there?

(I suppose, too, if you wanted to be straightforward about the limitations, you could just add "in recent versions of IE" to the end of that sentence.)

Note to all....

I have explained this before, but the reason I don't code cross browser is because it is such a pain in the arse..! I realise that a lot of people still use different versions of browser to IE, but my site was originally created to be a store for my own scripts, which were created in part or in whole for projects at work (work uses only IE). However, I had a lot response to some of my initial work, that I decided to develop the site further. I am beginning to make scripts using DOM compatability, but they are not ready yet. I doubt that I will ever fully migrate to cross browser coding until browser makers wake up and create their applications utilising a standard model (ie..W3C).

Sorry if this doesn't meet anyones 'code of practice', but hey, it's a free country....right?

The words you are refering to, were 'bevelled' using IE's dropshadow filter (use light and dark colours).

There are LOADS of tutorials for using filters, but if you get stuck, let me know.

pwhitrow: Believe me, I know where you're coming from. Like I said, cross-browser issues are the reason I gave up DHMTL (that and lack of time). But it's your page, and if it does what you want it to do, then you've succeeded.

If I could make one suggestion, though? Maybe you've already covered this and I just missed it, but I didn't see anything on the site saying that the scripts only work in IE 5.5 and up. I know the front page says that the site was designed for IE 5.5, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure.

Oh, by the way, those are some nifty scripts you've got there!
