Wow, that's a nice site. Crisp and clean, nice graphics. The only thing I would say is that (for me) there are too many things moving on the page. More importantly, they don't serve any function. You don't know how badly my subconscious wanted to click on those bouncing arrows to the left of the menu. My subconscious is like that sometimes. But I gave him a good smackdown, and he's behaving now.
Seriously, though, I think the site looks really nice, and the trivial animations take away from that for me. Oh, and the animated recycle icon really confused me. When you mouseover it turns into a hand, but you can't click on it. Again, why is it there?
2. Suho1004 is right about the animation. If the rule about not having too many moving things on the screen counted for animated gifs then it still counts for Flash animation. I'd ask myself why I'm adding those animations.
3 What is Bulent Bektas? It sounds like a Turkish name but clikcing on the graphic does nothing for me so I'm a little mystified.
4. I'm not sure why the text is a graphic on the need a website page - in fact now I check there is virtually no actual text on your page nearly everything is a graphic and this can't help with your searche ngine indexing.
5. I'd try and do something with the Asylum Ring box as it looks a little odd where it is. Work it more into your design or centre it in that white area.
6. You aren't making very good use of the amount of space available and the design doesn't seem very expanable.
7. I'm not sure of the significance of the graphics in the middle left (eye, frog, penguins, etc.) they are nice graphics but what are they saying? What feeling are they adding to your page?
8. The eye on the tutorials page is the same as that used at Ikazoom - I wouldn't be recycling elements so obviously.
9. Their doesn't seem to be an overall feel to the page. You have those two buttons with the cutoff corners in the top right but nothing else on the page reflects that theme. On the front page you have a large pixel font thingy, but you logo top right is nicely done in 3D. You should try to keep a consistent design thread running through everything you have on the site.
10. Why boast about being an internet junkie? I'm not sure that would instil me with confidence if I were a prospective client.
11. Is the site a business site or a tutorial? It seems to be lacking focus - if you are touting for business then you could do with the big sell being on the front page and a list of your skills somewhere.
[edit:
12. Your sunflower has a 1pixel high white line across the bottom right edge - I'm not sure if it is intentional but it looks like a mistake.
13. I don't lie people adding extra characters to the start of the TITLE tag as it makes my task bar buttons pretty meaningless - but thats me.]
Overall I really like what you've done but the site needs more focus on selling yourself and less about adding fancy bits that have little use. Good work.
1. Yea link was wrong, I have just finished the site , didnt have time to verify it yet Thanx for correction.
2. Well I like things moving on my site. Since this is my personal site, it should represent my taste isnt it
You havent seen the flash animation I have done I guess, everything moves there :P
3. Well that is my name , thats why it is there. And I believe everything you see on the site which moves when you mouse over doesnt have to be a link, am I wrong?
4. Well for the search engines, I dont care much about them either Didnt have the necessity to place text. I did a section called need a website just in case. I have different site for that purpose
5. I recently added that ring box, didnt have time to make it a graphic. I'll do that soon.
6. I guess I dont need to expand the site more than this
7. Well when I place those images I didnt thing it would mean something. I just like them.
8. Why shouldn't I I like that eye image. But I am going to change that eye image for you. Check that out soon again
9. Well Chaos is a kind of order isnt it ))
10. This page is not for clients, but for people who may find my tutorials useful
11. This site is for tutorials as well as my personal satisfaction
12. Yea, last night I added the image and forgot to place that image on bottom. (it was 6 am )
13. No comment
Again thank you for your great review
Oh by the way, why I chose pixel? Because I have never used it before. I dont care if many people has used it before
Yes, it is your personal site, so you can pretty much do whatever you want with it. But you did ask for a review. Whatever you do decided to do, at least know that a lot of people consider too many animations annoying, and people are drawn to stuff that moves. If it has no real meaning or purpose on your page, then you should ask yourself what people are being drawn to.
Yes, it's your personal page, but you're not the only one visiting it, right? If you'd like other people to frequent it, you should take other views into consideration. I found that most of your responses to Emps thorough review were pretty much along the lines of "Well I like it this way, so there. " The only things you acknowledged were actual errors, but in terms of design, etc., you really didn't seem open to any suggestions. So why the review? If you're just going to ignore the effort people have taken, why bother posting here?
Suho1004: Well people can take or leave any bits of a review they want and as I was assuming this was a business site some of my comments are wide of the mark. As you say if it is a personal site then people are welcome to do what they want (although I suspect most people would be interested in getting visitors otherwise it is just vanity publishing!!).
poidesign: About this:
quote:3. Well that is my name , thats why it is there. And I believe everything you see on the site which moves when you mouse over doesnt have to be a link, am I wrong?
as it is a personal site then you can do what you want but it would be unwise to make that rollover if it isn't really a link - you have to deal with user expectattions and that is a pretty basic one. But do what you like.
One question - are you connected to Poi anoher new inmate) or is that just a coincidence?
Emperor: Yes, of course, a person is free to do what they will with the advice they receive here, but it just seemed like he came in with his mind already made up. Granted, some of your comments would have been more suited to a business site, but some of them are valid for any site.
There are also a couple of points, poi, which I think you should have addressed:
1) Your name: Emps wasn't the only one who couldn't figure out it was your name; I didn't know either. So instead of just saying "That's my name," you should think 'Ah, this user didn't know that was my name; maybe I should make it a bit clearer.'
2) The rollover issue: both your name and the animated recycle icon change into a hand when you mouseover. This is one of the basic signs to the user that this image is clickable, and it is not wise to abuse such basic conventions.
The primary problem I had with your response, poi, is not that you didn't take all of Emperor's advice, but the attitude you had toward the advice in general.
Emps: 6. You aren't making very good use of the amount of space available and the design doesn't seem very expanable.
You: 6. I guess I dont need to expand the site more than this
Why did you even bother replying to that? And that wasn't the only one--about three-quarters of your responses were of this nature. And here's one I found especially disturbing:
Emps: 8. The eye on the tutorials page is the same as that used at Ikazoom - I wouldn't be recycling elements so obviously.
You: 8. Why shouldn't I I like that eye image. But I am going to change that eye image for you. Check that out soon again
In this case, "recycling" is a euphemism for "ripping," a word we try not to bandy about as it gets the natives restless. And yet your attitude is "Why shouldn't I?" Excuse me?
I'm sorry, poi, I like your site, but I don't like your attitude. Emps, I'm sorry if I got a little hostile here, but I'm not going to take back what I said. I respect your work and your effort, and it peeves me to see people come in here, ask for a review, and then essentially ignore it.
[Edit: Won't be around for the rest of the day, so don't mind me if I don't reply to further posts...]

Well, first of all sorry if the message look arrogant somehow, I didnt mean to write like that. I was merely answering the questions and wrote why I did the way like that. And yes, the answers are valuable for me, that's why I am grateful that emp had wrote an extensive review for the site, I wasnt expecting such a long reply.
For the animations, why do you think there are too many animations? There are 3 of them on the main site, one is arrows, the other is the text and the last one is the recycling thing. Arrow points to menu since it is not very visible :P
Text animation is just for fun and recyling animation is ... well I dunno why I did it, I just liked it there the way it is. I have seen sites with much more animation and still looked good to me. Does it look disorganized or just too much?
quote:Suho Wrote : In this case, "recycling" is a euphemism for "ripping," a word we try not to bandy about as it gets the natives restless. And yet your attitude is "Why shouldn't I?" Excuse me?
What I mean there was, I have used the eye image on that site , and I wanted to use it on my site , since the other site is not actively open. So I wouldnt consider it "ripping" for using an image which I used before. But what I understood from Emps review is that, using an element twice on different sites wouldnt look good and I agree with him.

Well, yea it is kind of abusing if you think like that :P I think either I should remove the mouse over or add a mailto link there. (or maybe continue abusing? :PPP)
I dont think Suho got even a little hostile here, you are just stating how you feel, and I appreciate honesty.
Emp -> I am not sure I am connected to the other Poi, I know I have opened an account long time ago, but recently start using it. I was trying to open an account with the nickname Poi but somehow I start using this old one. (either I remembered the password or the name already exist (which means there is another poi))
?! I guessed there were some other guys using POÏ as nickmane but never met one now, I can die
Emperor: that's a pure coincidence and I'm the first surprised. Hum, maybe the second, after the other POÏ
poidesign: Hey! I like your nick No, really, I use this nick since 1992. Indeed that was POÏ POÏ at the beginning but I quickly found it better with one single POÏ. I chose POÏ POÏ because it was a logo in an AMIGA demo I saw ~4years before. BTW this demo made me discover the demoscene and almost changed my life.
Concerning your site, I like :
.the pixel font though as Emperor noticed it's been over-used, I find it clean
.the sunflower, penguins & dog illustrations on the left
and dislike :
.the wired man & frog illustrations
.the cheap tutorials ( I mean the net is stuffed of "how to" do some wires, scanlines, smooth interface, halos ... )
Best regards,
Mathieu "POÏ" HENRI
