tomeaglescz: OK I'll let you off on the double posting (but just this once ). The other post is here and is more focused on the multimedia aspects:
http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum10/HTML/000277.html

Thoughts:

1. Is there any need for this? There doesn't seem to be much too the page which couldn't be done in a fairly simple webpage (with DHTML) and it would be bigger on the screen, faster loading and wouldn't hassle people to download an upgrade if they don't have one.

2. The Flash is sitting a little low on the page.

3. The scrolling is not intituitive.

4. That table border look is very 1996. I'd use inset or outset (or ridge and groove) styles on the border (I suspect it'll look better).

Overall it looks OK but I wonder if it is an appropriate usage of the technology - if you had a HTML and a Flash version then I can see no reason why I'd want to use the Flash version (with its downsides). I do like the colours and the look but I wonder if it would be better to just do it in HTML. Keep us informed of your progress.

emps ok, lemme address some of ya points

#1 its shockwave not flash
#2 its going to be part of a portfolio piece where i can demonstrate my sockwave stuff, all the content textwise will pop up where that scrolling text is now, i am going to add some scroll bars to that area to highlight the fact its scrollable.
#3 ya right about it sitting low....looked fine on mine then i remembered i am runing at 1600x1200
#4 ya right about the border it sucks....that wont be there in the final version

still not bad for 144k the only extra files etc that would be involved are the portfolio images, i would have used flash for this but i am planning on adding some other features into the subpages that i am more happier using shockwave in. there will be a flash part aswell...

thanks for ya input as always bang on target (i will let ya off the mistake about flash ( just this once )

C:\ No problems Director 8.5 is the package, it was originally in its first few encarnations aimed at multimedia products, now its quite handy for the web aswell, and the whole thing was only 144k.

since the issue of flash has been raised here i thought i would put some sort of answer to it.

here is the way i break down whether to use flash or director for web based projects.

FLASH

Presentations
Complete Interfaces
Nav Buttons etc
E Commerce store fronts
Animations

Shockwave

Anything that needs a sophisticated programming approach...product demos etc, destination content...

here's a snippet of info from macromedia

92% of browsers have flash installed now shockwave player around the 50% mark...

Flash is more aimed as i have said for web anims, splash screens etc whilst shockwave is used to bring rich multimedia to the back end of flash sites...
www.lexus.com is a classic exaple of this most of flash but get to the build ya own lexus and the power of shockwave really kicks in....

anyway enough of my waffle...

tomeaglescz: Shockwave or Flash doesn't really matter for my point - I still wonder if that kind of technology is appropriate for what you are doing. You've not actually been clear with your plans - if this is to be just a demonstration of what you can do then go crazy (well not literally) but if it is actually going to be part a functioning of your website then I would be a little more concerned

On the download speed - I'm no longer on dialup so it seemed fine.

emps grin damn my clarity sucks today

Yeah this is essentially to show what i can do with shockwave, flash isnt really a problem now as the user base is huge, shockwave is however slightly less supported and there will be warnings before this page is reached...it will autoload the shockwave plugin though when ya hit the page rather than the standard redirect some pages do.

what he means is why use flash or shcokwave at all. You could make the same site in HTML much easier and it would load much faster. I didnt have shockwave installed, so I waited the 20 mins to vierw your site, then wondered where the shockwave content was.

ok me fair comment, it was a test of d/l speed for the actual shockwave movie there will be several different versions of it dhtml flash and shockwave it will not be my front page but part of a general shockwave content area where people that want shockwave stuff done can look at my stuff, if you read thru the thread you would have seen my explantaion of this, this is the front page of the shockwave area the links to it will warn people that they will need the plugin.. i just wanted to get some input on its appearence speed etc. no way would i put a shockwave front end on a website as a "home page" i wanted to get feed back on colour scheme text readability smothness of scrolling etc, before i went ahead with the rest of the shockwave area in that colour scheme
