Ok everyone, here is the site I've been working so hard on the last few months.
http://www.annbeckett.com
The site is best viewed at 1024x768.
My time has been scarce this summer because I was heavily involved in my sister's wedding and had to rebuild my computer in the meantime! I'm just glad it's over and the summer's winding down now. I get about a month to relax and then the dang holidays are here!
This is the first version of the site, I still have plenty of work to do to it, including adding some blow-ups and slide shows that the thumbnails will link to. The site was created in a mixture of PhotoShop, ImageReady and Dreamweaver, please don't worry about crituqing the code, I didn't write it. Unless you can think of any way to clean it up that won't take a book to decipher! And if anyone knows anyone who is interested in sculpture commissions, pass the word out!

Just a few ideas...

The text: You need some anti-aliasing on those section titles (Meet, etc.). Also, I would just go with plain text for those rollovers (on the main page). I believe that would require moving away from the rollover and relying on hiding/showing layers, but it would probably end up being a lot neater. As it is now, that text is horrible.

While we're on the subject, there are other ways you could go about this--it doesn't have to be a mouseover effect. I suppose it's kind of neat to have the picture pop up over the hand, but you might want to explore other ways of doing it. Not saying that this couldn't work, of course.

I would put the "Home" Link at the top of the page, rather than at the bottom, and you should disable the "Home" link on the home page itself. It's always jarring to have a link that leads to the page you're currently on.

Suho - thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.
I have gotten some reviews that the initial page loads slowly, and that's something I had already thought would be a problem. I've got a couple of work-arounds that I'm mulling over to help speed up the front page.
I shall take your comments to heart and see how they work with others that I've gotten. This site will probably be an on-going project as Ann is continually turning out new work. As I learn more about web development, I can employ different techniques...

Hmm... I'm on a cable modem and the first page is only a matter of seconds for me. Maybe it's slower for dialup. And it never hurts to make a page faster, either.

And definitely keep learning. I'm sure the site will just continue to get better and better.

The mouseover effect on the thumbnails is actually only a pre-cursor. After this weekend (I have some vacation time and I'm gonna finish the v.1 of the site) you will rollover to see the initial view of the piece, and then click to go to another page with a larger shot, and for the movable pieces, slide shows of other views. Or something similar. If anyone has any suggestions for that part of it, I will gladly entertain them. As of now, the plan is to create interactive slide shows through Fireworks... (Man, I got to learn some real code!)
I'm glad to learn that broadband has no problems with the initial page. I am going to speed it up some. On 56k, its not too too slow, but slow enough to put a quick surfer off the page...
