I knocked this up the other night. It's a little rough but it'll have to do for now as I'm really bloody busy. Although I took a bit of extra time to make sure it would validate. I've also got some other plans for this site when I have time to finish them. Anyways, how about it so far?

Oh yeah, Can you tell me if anything breaks.

I know some things will break in opera but I refuse to loose any sleep over that browser. A Mac test would be hand but I can do that myself in a couple of days.

Anyhow, I gotta run off and get crackin on the next one.

I didnt know you had a page...

anyway this is gonna bee reeeeally quick.

1) when ever i click on one of the links on the left, the page loads left aligned then snaps to center.. I looks like a bug to me.

2) pretty pretty please dont link to your art on DA. I guess you Just did that with your larger works or higher rez versions but.... please dont make me go there. DA can be super slow and DA sucks in a major way. I came to *your* page, dont send me off.

Very tidy page... I am left wondering if that bright orange tinged text really fits with the industrial metal though. It works great in IE 6 cept for the centering deal. And i am getting and "error on page" message on my IE window... Dunno why though, the page works fine.

Dracusis: Really nice work indeed and a great use of CSS, etc.

1. That centring is noticeable and should be fixed. You actually use JavaScript to do it which is distincly odd - use CSS and move away from absolute positioning and use float. For all your centring needs see:
http://bluerobot.com/web/css/center1.html

2. Why do I see this: before the source?

3. The graphics are really nicely done but they have a bit of a light touch to the outer edge and the general lighting isn't clear to me (it was slightly distracting).

4. I dind't think the way you have done your images was quite XHTML and might cause a few problems for some browsers - you need a space before the /> e.g. in here:

code:
<img onmouseover="this.src='images/tutorial.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='images/space.gif'"
src="images/space.gif" width="180" height="42" alt="...like I ever paid attantion in class"/>

5. I'd add in a JavaScript loading indicator for those people on dialup as they might be left staring at the screen wondering what had happened

Other than that it looks really good and works nicely. You've done a mighty fine job with this

[edit: fixed HSBoD]

Thanks for the comments Izzy.

Although it's not ~my~ page per say. I don't have a home page. It's a page for a subject I'm going at university. Kind of a journal site for a particular subject or something. Whatever, it get's marked. Oh and about the DA thing... um.. I think I'm going to leave that in there. I know exactaly what your getting at but part of this subject was about our design practice and I'm trying to pimp the idea that putting my work on DA is pert fo the feedback process. Which it kinda is and kinda isn't but, eh, they don't need to know that.

I will make it more obvious that the links lead to DA though. Although any link that isn't thumb-nailed (or part fo the menu) leads away from the site, and it should be opening in a new window.

That centering bug. I'm getting that too. It only started happening after I uploaded it. It appears that the javascript is waiting for the whole page to load (images and all) before it center's the site. It's happening in Mozilla too. I'll see what I can do.

Javascript error. Huh? Oh, that... um... didn't see that before.... arr... what the fuck is that?

----------------------------
Line: 33
Char: 32
Error: The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and dissapeared; all connections are invalid; the call did not execute.
Code: 0
----------------------------

Anyone know what that is?

There is no code on line 33. and the page is working perfectly. I'm not getting this error for the version on my hard disk. How strange.

Anyway, Thanks guys.

Emps:

???

Edit: Oh, that. Yah, I think I know what that's from.

As for the Javascript centering... well... I'd still need to use script for part of it anyways. Oh, hang on.... maybe not. I was having some problem getting the layout centered in a logical way (just wouldn't work). I'll have a bit of a play later on and see what I can come up with.

I know what you mean about the edges being rather light. I'm working on something for that but it'll come later.

<img/> or <img />... I thought the <img /> one was just bacause some of the old browsers like pre NN3/IE3 would fail completly with those kinds of markup. I think <img/> is considered proper form for XML document.

A Javascript Load counter for 130k?... Yeash. Maybe.... Narr stuff em.... arr.. yeah alright. I'll do that later...

Nifty Drac.

I would agree with the load indicator. Even on broadband, you're used to seeing something moving when things are loading, and it was a bit disorienting.

How about making your text sizes relative? I don't think the text is too small as it is, but with the relatively low contrast, it is pretty much at the threshhold of what I would consider comfortable reading. Why don't you give the reader control over the text sizes, just in case someone comes in with not-so-great eyesight?

I like the design, and I don't really mind the orange. I think it's a nice splash of color in an otherwise colorless page, making it that much more effective. Good job all around.

Arrr, ok, thanks for that InI.

The problem is that document.body.clientWidth doesn't work in IE6 when your using a valid DTD.

Bummer, this means even more if then clauses if we want to go standards compliance....

I'm working on a way to do this without javascript but it's not working out very well. . Eh, I'll get there eventually.

Suho: Good points, I'll add some style switching options soon.

"decent server"

It is decent!... It's also free with unlimited space and bandwidth (Gotta love mates that have their own rack space)

But I'll be getting a couple of domains over x-mas. I still have half a dozen unfinished sites sitting on my hard disk, I just need the time to finish them.

One of them'll be [b]dracusis.com[b/] and I've got another site for that too. Well, actually it'll be more of a gateway to a series of dirrerent sites. I made a descion about 6 months back that I was going to spend some quality time actually getting some content on the web and it's all starting to come togther now.
