Overall, it has a nice feel, but I think some things are really way to 'soft'. Too much blurring and all... I would also very strongly suggest trying to do this without the tables. Most of the layout could be done extremely easily without them (and would save you some bandwidth/maintence time). Some parts may be a little truckier, but I don't see anything that requires tables. I despise 'spacer' gifs as well...even when tables were about the only way to go, it never made sense to me to use them in such a way. my 2 cents...
