So the site hasn't been tested in enough browser versions yet, and that's a problem because all of the layout is done with CSS and inline tables...but that's coming this week. Internet Explorer 6.0 is what it works correctly in. Any details on 5.0 and 5.5 would be great, cuz really, 98% of the site's traffic (the current site) is IE 5, 5.5, or 6.

Anywho, the old *extremely* crappy site is www.techworthy.com - just for comparison...

The redesign site, the one I need some feedback on, is http://stage.www.techworthy.com

thanks as always..

the first thing that strikes me is that my eye doesn't seem to know where to look. lots of little thumbnail type images everywhere act as a major distraction when the colour scheme of the site is subtle like this one. looking to the right of the page there is an extra, darker manilla colour that should probably go or be more prevalent in the rest of ths site, and some kind of image title on one box which looks plain wrong. also, i'm not sure how the missing stuff at the top could affect this, but a few more carefully placed lines would give the site much nicer structure, so you could know what you were looking at more easily. those are just ta few things to consider fixing, but it would also be well worth implementing a more liquid design. i haven't looked at your code, but by the design, this shouldn't be especially hard to do.

grats42: Much improved

As quisja has said the main problem is focus - decide where you want the focus and draw people's eye to it - in this case by using an offwhite.

The colours/design is also inconsitent - people need to be able to scan the rest of the page and be able to spot box headers (the learning center, Hardware, etc) as being the same - you will need to group things by colour as well as using it to divide up the page (as suggested above).

I also think the nav bar needs more work to define it as a distinct entity - that news letter box isn't doing it any favours.

I'd recommend you read through DmS' tutorial at the GN on designing your site:
www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/misc/wbtgd/design_1.html

I suspect you need to sit down with a pen and paper and quickly sketch out where you want the different areas to be. You might also consider reducing the number of colours you are using there are what 8 main ones so try and trim that down to half that number.

Its coming along but needs more planning which should give it a more consistent/professional look and feel.
