Woohoo A few months of hard work is more or less over!

January 1st my latest webdesign work was released. You can see the result at http://www.rolfmartinsson.com
As you can see it is a large site, 34 pages under the Start page, and I am working on an English version that will be released in February.

The site is made for a Swedish composer, and is working as his "database" for all of his works. His wishes was to have a homepage that he always could tell the press and other media, concert producers, and other people who need information about him and his work, to go to. He wanted to have the homepage in blue and yellow (the Swedish colours), to have a new modified photo on each page, to make the site as easy as possible to browse even though the material is huge, and to have the possibility to update himself without knowing anything about html. I chose a very light yellow as background with blue text. Browsing is pretty easy, I think, because the site is not very deep. The picture job was huge. Some of the pictures are still not prefect, and at least one has to be changed. Together with my husband I created a rather simple perl script making it possible for him to update five of the pages - the pages under "Aktuellt".

so what do you think, folks? To be a "hobby-project", isn't it nice?

Uhm, they've got a forum for that. It's called site reviews. Don't worry, it's not such a big deal, but I guess your topic will be moved there shortly.

The overall thing looks kinda nice, and somewhat easy to navigate, but I guess that with the photo's all you did is letting loose some of PS's default filters.

Thanks M, I always seem to post in the wrong place... I will keep my eyes open to see if this post moves.

About the pictures: Maybe it seems like it is only default filters, but it's not. There is quite a lot of work behind each picture. But I admit, I am not as great as many of you other PS-gurus in here

Thanks HZR, always nice to hear someone like your work.

Anyway, Music-Sweden has showed its reaction on the site already, believe it or not. Two hours after the composer posted a note about his new homepage on the Swedish Composer's society's site, I got a mail sent to me asking to make a website with a similar quality for them. It is an ensemble conducted by one of the most world famous conductors who needs a homepage. Now I really have to try to find a good way of pricing my work...

Any more feedback from you in here?

If I could read the language I am sure I would have some more feedback for you. If you do get the english version online make sure to drop a line, it is a beautiful site and I would really like to be able to read what it is all about.

The thing that I think about is the center frame, I am not sure about it, but at the same time I have a hard time making any judgement on the use since I don't understand what all the content on the borders is. If I could read it better I would be able to offer more...

Damn my US single language education.

WarMage, I am still waiting for the material for the English version, so right now I am just checking my mail every now and then and doing nothing... The composer is also still checking up with the rights to have music examples on his site. He has to pay a lot just to have a few seconds of his own music online.

And, hehehe, my hubby had the same comment about single language when he came to Sweden from CA. Now at least he knows both English AND Swedish.

The center frame... Well, I don't know what you mean about it. The composer wanted all links visible all the time, which was impossible. So I had to choose the main links that are shown on the left menu. Some of these links open up both a new center frame and a new menu to the right, like "Kompositioner" - that is Compositions. Since he only wants a compressed version in English I don't think all links will be shown on the English menu.

It has altogether been quite a fun job, but tons of text material to format. Also, the composer has added and added and added. And I have waited a lot for material the whole time. Still waiting for the final stuff.

Also I read some posts in here that frames are not good. Hmmm this site is so full of frames. It would be impossible to make it without frames. The composition lists are so huge and long so it would be hell to scroll up every time you want to get to the menu again.
