Topic: Site Review and Photography Enthusiasts

Hopefully this will be OK to post here!!!! (please delete or lock if it isn't)

I recently redesigned my Web site, http://www.PictureEditor.com - a photography site that leans toward photojournalism/documentary work and also a small business.

First, I'd like a site check.

Second, it's really hard to get forums rolling with no members, so I'm offering a $100 B&H Photo gift certificate_ as a prize to someone in the first 200 new members to sign up. All you have to do is register. There's no catch (the gift certificate and order needs to be sent to B&H by mail, though) - I'm just trying to offer an incentive to get the forums rolling. I already asked my girlfriend to pick a number from 1-200, so I know where the winner is in the lineup. If I can't get 200 people by April 31, then I will just award it to a random person within the registered group.

I just visited your site and i have some comments.

- I do like the general look and feel from your site.
- The white background is a dislike. It's to bright for me.
- When i click on a gallery-link in the contributors section a pop-up shows with the choosen gallery. People with pop-up blockers will not see them. A warning might be a good idea. Then they are able putt the pop-up blocker off. Or you might use iframes instead.
- The little blue balls in the services section show a little jagged (pixelated) that is a bit ugly.
- It is not really clear to me which links goes outside and which stay on the site until i click on them. This could be improved a bit.

Btw i also posted a message in the forum.....

No, please don't use iframes... if you must use pop-ups, a warning will suffice ("links open a pop-up window").

The white isn't too bright for me... may be just my monitor.

Overall, very nice look.

just had a quick glance and I just feel that 28 sections of your forum is a little much.

I know there are a lot of topics to cover, but it may be possible to consolidate some of the topics.

I'll be back later to check it out more.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've had a few people complain about the brightness of the white - doesn't really bother me on my LCD monitors, but it must be worse on other monitors. I'm considering changing it. I considered the problem with pop-ups, too, but so many news sites use them now. Other than loading full pages, it seemed like an OK compromise.
