Topic: Site to aid my job search (Page 1 of 1)

Hello,

I've been digging the O-Zone for a few years now, about time I got my lazy ass around to signing up on the forum.

I created a homepage to (hopefully) assist me in landing a job. We are moving to Durham NC this summer and I wanted a solid web home to store application documents and such. Any advice on the site (or finding an IT job) would be quite helpful. Also, if you click on the link to my portfolio you can tear into sites there as well if you have extra ammo, particularly the Wilhoite croquet site or Sherlock homes (the others are out of my hands or in disuse).

Oops, i forgot to add my own critique... (or is it a pathetic attempt to increase my post count by 33% in one swell foop?)

I'd like to change the blue in the navigation bar to match the logo more.

There is a faint outline around the main image that must go. Speaking of the main image, it sin't my best work. I wanted to show people and technology together.

It looks like something happened to the text in the nav bar, it used to be cleaner... don't know what's up with that!

Hi there!

First impressions:
(trying to play a possible employer here )

- Feels a bit old and outdated with all bevels and the texture.
- Lot's and lot's (and lot's) of text to read, a good thing information wise, but do I have the patience to read it all to get to the good stuff I'm looking for? For one, why have you hidden your personal statement? The format I'm used to from applicants are a personal letter telling me why I should hire you, then a CV of skills and education, last portfolio and references.
- Top left logo, blurry... Why? Everything else is crisp.
- Experience page, shows the same as the resume, a link points me to what I think is a temporary page, but it's an anchor a bit down on the page, the same info I read at the resume... Fix now.

- Code:
If I'm looking for a webdeveloper with coding skills, I'll take a look at your source for sure.
What do I find?
Something that seems to be written wholly in Dreamweaver, font tags all over the place, center tags... Hm, is this guy lazy or does he have a problem with up to date standards/HTML coding?

Summary:
A+ for providing lot's of relevant information in a well phrased way.
B for structure and ease of finding the right information quickly
B+ for visual experience, ok, but feels old.
C for not showing your coding skills in the source.

Might feel harsh, but believe me, no one is harsher than a company looking for talent in todays market
