I've just added a new forum to my site.
It's IE anly at the moment (till I get time to fix it..!)

Please check it out and let me have your thoughts (bear in mind that there is still some work to do on it..!).

Cheers,

Paul

Nice idea. The functionality seem a little limited and I imangine that it could get rather messy rather quickly. Having a mass of windows without any kind of docking system to switch between them isn't such a great idea. If your going to simulate elements of an OS try not to leave out core bits of the useability. I also think it could look better -- what's with the stripy window headers?

It works ok in IE/Widows but like you said, it fails in everything else. Even still you have some text selection issues that should be addressed. Like when you move or re-size the windows. Oh and on the re-size thing, why is there no graphical indication for the resize handle?

Appart form that I think it's a nice idea but as it cuttenrly stands it isn't quite functional enough for my liking.

I've never liked forums where you can't see a thread and all the replies to it at once. I much prefer the asylum style where you can just scroll through the thread as far as you wanna go.

Drac: I'm guessing the stripy title bars are to match those of the site...? Would probably be better as just a bevel or something though.

All the same, if the forum isn't going to be used for really long posts, then I quite like the way it works.

I've got to agree with Drac, mostly, but I want to stress that resizing windows can "break" the forum's functionality. I didn't really like the fact that I had to scroll through a bunch of separate windows, so I tried to resize the main threads window. Unfortunately, my mouse wouldn't "let go" of the window even after I released the button, so the window just kept resizing according to where I moved the mouse. Then I accidentally made the window too large and it scrolled down--so now I can't see the top of the window (or any of spawned sub-windows), and thus I cannot close them. Needless to say, things are getting cluttered and messy.

There are a lot of things that you're going to need to work on here, but I'm not really sure if it's worth the effort. Why wouldn't a traditional forum set-up do in this situation? Isn't ease of use more important than general niftiness?
