It's one of my older sites...

I'm creating a new version, but was wondering who likes what and why.

Hmm... to be perfectly honest with you I'm not too enthusiastic about the site. Here's what I was thinking as I went through it...

Splash page. I dislike splash pages. I also dislike sites that don't tell me they are going to open a new window, since I have a little program that automatically blocks pop-ups. The blue links on the black background on the splash page are very hard to read.

I've also got a personal thing against web awards. If your site is good, I'll figure that out for myself. And I've seen plenty of sites win web awards despite being absolute crap. Not saying that your site is absolute crap, of course.

Oh, it's a chromeless site. I've never really liked those either--why break the browser functionality? I just don't get it.

Hmm... the text in the chromeless window is very hard to read. It isn't "crisp," and it's also quite small. The scrolling mechanism was tolerable on the splash page because there was very little to scroll, but it is very annoying here. I'm sorry, but I don't have the patience to sit there and wait for the menu to scroll. And there is no easy way back up except to scroll the other way. Excruciating. (I notice that you have a normal scrollbar window in the lower right--why not just use that for the menus?)

Perhaps the biggest strike against the site is that I can't really figure out what it is about. It doesn't seem to have any real purpose, or at least none that I can detect. To be honest, it feels like a garage--things just lying around in boxes stacked here and there.

For some reason I was disappointed that only one of the Storms is human. I'm not sure why. And why are you Storms, anyway? Is that your last name? Is it a moniker? Again, confusion.

In the final analysis, I had to force my way through the site just so I could write this (and I didn't even look at everything). Had I been browsing, I would have most likely left immediately, or shortly after almost going blind trying to read the text in the chromeless window. I truly am sorry for the harsh review, but you did ask. I will be interested in seeing the new version, though, if only to see what is being changed.

If it will make you feel any better, I have been known to be rather harsh in my reviews at times, so if this upsets you feel free to ignore it.

Can't really say much about the page since I can't see it. I load the page and then I get an annoying splash page telling me that I can't view the site because it only works in IE5+. And since I'm running Linux I can't get IE (except through a lot of work) so the page is effectively blocked for me and all other Linux users...

After reading through Suho's review I think I agree with what he says (especially the pop-up and chromeless things), even though I haven't seen the page...

Huh... yeah, I happen to be using IE/Win, so I had no problems, but it is very bad form to code for one specific browser, even if that browser may be in the majority. You can very easily make a nice site that works in all browsers (although it may not look the same).
