Here's the problem: what you've got there is not plain and simple. What is there is overly complicated to the point of being silly. "plain and simple" and "flash buttons that don't need to be flash" are rather contradictory concepts. If it were plain and simple, I'd be happy. But it is currently messy, very poorly accessible, uses flash where there should be none, and uses some pretty odd code.
