The code needs some serious cleaning up - there are so many odd and unneccesary bits that are really confusing things. Also remove as many classes as you can - there doesn't seem to be much need for most of them. As for the decoration on the 'S' - look into the [url=http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/Test/CSS1/current/sec24.htm]first-letter[/url] pseudo class. I think you could really use some more basic info on CSS, as it seems you have an overly complicated view of it. It can, of course, be very complicated, but it doesn't need to be - especially for a simple layout like this.
