The fact that your code is very poorly written is to blame for the layout problems. The poor graphics quality in the screen cap is because I don't want a huge file sitting on my server and compressed them an awful lot. 2) Things that are absolutely positioned will not "fold up" as you put it - that's the whole point of using absolute positioning. 3) Using a proper DOCTYPE and writing code that validates will often give you pages that work well across modern browsers.
