hello
i have just finished my "portfolio" site and i would be happy about some constructive feedback and some tips about it.
i know that the link symbol for the home page doesn't fit that nice, i will change that later
btw, can i get rid of the table layout withouht losing the borders on the left and right side? and...well...is there a way to control the font size in IE?
i am using css x-small, but the gecko engine renders a different font size as IE. maybe it works with a browser detection function? i want the text as small as in mozilla, but i do not want to use a fixed px size.
btw, comments on my pictures there are also very appreciated.
thx
edit: uh, forgot to add the link. here is it www.thespacebetweenus.com/portfolio/

looks nice.. late now, so i won't say much but..

i'm working on my portfolio / personal site right now too, and one of the things its got is a comment form on the bottom of each page.. so i like that about yours

for fonts, I never use x-small or points - i always use pixel sizes (10px for example) it seems to give me the greatest control accross the browsers. If you don't want that, then I guess its down to a browser detection like you say. I'm not quite sure why you don't want a fixed pixel tho... if a user wants it bigger, then their browser settings should take presidence over the css... but maybe I'm missing something, or you have a better reason

looks kinda streched in my 1600x1200 window, but i guess that's my fault.. its a nice fluid design on your part. i think it could be better if the gallery images didn't spread out so much in the big window. thats gettin pretty picky tho.. other than that, the links, and the drop cap for hello are a little difficult to see and read. yeah the links def. need to be easier to see.

btw, i like the portfolio content and the bg image - nice work

Lurch: "then their browser settings should take presidence over the css"

Not Really... IE's font sizing feature (and possibly other browsers) doesn't resize fonts with px mesaurements because using px to define fonts tells a browser that you need pixel perfect control over your fonts for the design to work.

Quite simply, if you want to offer some user control of font sizes then you'll have to surender any pixel perfect font sizing because you'll never know what the browsers settings will be. The alternative solution is to create a font size control in DHTML.

^what he said.

as an additional point: if you want the user to be able to control the size, and you want a fairly consistent size across browsers, use EM as units.

The user can set the default size on any of the browsers, so you won't have total control, but for the 'average' user it will be consistent - and for the user who changes the default setting...well...they know what they're getting themselves into, so don't worry about them
