Just looking for anyones thoughts before I go ahead with it, it isnt finished and Im not 100% on it.

BTW , each page will fit in that small box with out scrollbars I'd say, the guestbook with layout different.

I hate, hate, hate unnecessary iframes or inline scrolly things or whatever. Why waste all that space you have available in the browser window? Why not put the spider in the upper left and USE the rest of the browser window for something?

Having a phobia of spiders, I should point out that the image you have there makes me rather uneasy.

Appart from that, there's not much to review. The negative spacing of the menu and the content indent works well, but could probably do with some more right padding for the paragraph text. Possibly half the left indent/padding, worth a try at least.

Oh, one more thing. I'm really tired of seeing that silkscreen font. There are many many other, nicer, much more legiable pixel fonts out there, lots of free ones too. And if you must use a pixel font for all of your copy (11px high verdana beats 90% of all pixel fonts hands down anyways), for gods sake, use one that's not all caps.

1. I disagree with krets, I think as long as you don't have masses of content (and use a div with overflow instead of an iframe) the use of white space looks good
2. I like the spider.
3. Don't use an image for your body text, I don't mind the silkscreen in the nav (you'll want to look into FIR for that) but that will make it a usability disaster. Likewise, you could easily use plain text to the titles.

Other than that, I quite like it, there isn't much more I can think to say until you get coding.

On FIR and usability, you might also want to check out this article at the newly revamped ALA. As it turns out, FIR itself ain't all that usable...

As for what you've got, the spider doesn't look too bad--it is mildly creepy, but mildly creepy can be good.

I also dislike iframes and inline scrolly thingies, but not for the reason that quisja suspects. I do like whitespace--take a look at my site to see how I use whitespace. In fact, krets also makes good use of white space on his site as well. But I cannot speak for him, so I will only speak for myself: my objection to "inline scroll thingies" is not that they create whitespace, but that they are often used unnecessarily (to borrow krets' words). I don't really see the need for it here, that's all. It has nothing to do with whitespace.

Other than that, it is clean, and I like clean. It's tough to say much more with only that to go on, but it looks like a fairly promising start.

I think it looks fine, but then again I really like minalism. White space it good. The spider is a little creepy as I am in the same club as Dracusis on this. The content needs to have some type of border on it or something though, could be done through CSS if ya wanted.

Is this going to be a CSS only site or use tables? If you are going to use CSS the hard part (at least for me) is to get the entire document to center horizontally on the screen in Mozilla. I had to do sometype of freaking work around to get it as close as I could until I find a better solution.

But, I dig it. Colors are good and the layout is nice and clean. Instead of using a div set to overlow:auto, you may want to look at Doc's Znippets scrollbar

[replace 'with' with 'will'] I don't like those scrollbars much either and what I hate most about them is making them. I dont know why krets said that, ya see ... I have fuck all content, I'll never need more text than whats there. If I need more space, i.e links & guestbook section the main box area will stretch down and let users use their own scrollbars so to speak. I had a great idea for the guestbook section last night, but I've forgotten it, I'm sure I'll think it up again :P.

In relation to the font, I will stick to a pixel font and have the text as images so I can do some dhtml easy with it sliced up. But I will definatly consider a different pixel font. I used silkscreen to write 'icklepix.com' at 200% and it looked good for some designs and I've just kinda kept to it, but I dont like how theres no lowercase letters. As for readability I dont think I have to worry too much as Im not going to have much text and I keep it spaced etc... In the text I might put small b&w images, it would be handy for that too.

oh and the links and guestbook will use a normal font, verdana 12/11 most likely.

Haven't thought about the code much, will probably use tables in divs and some css. I'll probably only code it for IE4+ and DOM, I hope to have a lot of animated bits, possibly including the spider, found that guy in my sink one morning, that colour and everything, it was a little duller, but only a little bit, will post photo of it if you spider fans want them, a nice big 1600x1200 for your desktops. The spider is fairly creepy I guess, but I don't think anyone is going to shit their pants over a web site

I wont be using silkscreen in the main texty area, and I'll be possitioning everything absolutely with JS as I wants lots of stuff to move about.

So I guess you're kind of leaning away from a liquid design, eh? Seems like that might end up being an awful lot of space...
