This site I designed is more of a work in progress. I used Adobe GoLive to build the site, but I did learn HTML, so I'm not clueless with the code! Please post any suggestions.

The drawings show some promise - I'd like to see more.

The graphic elements on the site, in and of themselves, are alright. Not my kinda style, and perhaps a bit overdone on the web, but alright.

The problem is that they seem just kind of slapped on top of one another with no sense of order, visual heirarhcy, no defined space to exist in....they're all just kinda "there".

To add to this disconnected sense, there is no space defined for the content. It just kind of floats in the middle, and there is nothing to draw your eye any which way.

There is the issue of navigation - never remove your top level links. If you're going to have a sub menu in each section, you need to find a way to incorporate it in addition to the main menu rather than in place of the main menu.

Overall, it just begs for more structure. Give the graphics a reason to be where they are, and give the content a place to be.

Introduce more variation in your text with headers that are large/different color than the regular text.

hope that helps a little...

Thanks for taking a look DL-44! This is certainly the first site I uploaded that didn't look like work from an eight year old. For now I'm going to improve the site as it sits as much as possible. I'm certainly going to bookmark your post and ponder every one of your comments. The quality of my drawings improved termendously after taking a community college drawing class. I'll take some photo's of my larger artwork once I get my portfolio back and update the Draw section asap.

I also like your art, pretty cool, but at first, it took me a moment to orient myself and find where
to click to enter your page. Perhaps you should put the links for 2D, 3D, and About under you text
in your main page also, and just make them regular links.

Like this.

It appears your gothic arch dome drawing - tn2.jpg - is scanned in sideways.
That's...uh...probably not the optimum viewing angle for ultimate appreciation of that piece of work.

Not much to add on top of what's already been said, but I do have a couple of issues.

Firstly, stop using the rust texture that's been shipping with 3DS Max since version 2.5 in your interface. I don't work with 3D that much and I could pick it extreamly easily. You also need to stop using free textures and images you found on the net. The Shingles texture/image is a dead give away, I've seen that on hundereds of sites before.

Thanks for all your responces, I have a long way to go! My links certainly need rearrangement. I plan on starting over. I'm going to mainly use html untill I learn some of the things DL-44 mentioned on his about page.

Gilbert Nolander: I need to work with the text in my site to make it more interesting, extra links couldn't hurt.

Mobrul: Didn't notice that! Thanks for taking the time to piont that out.

Cameron: Is using photosource texture in web design considered bad in some way? Are you possitive the rust is that common? Can't remember if I got it from Animax or one of my photos. I'll dig up the orginal.

The problem you inherit with using free sources is that the few decent images you find get used to death by you and a million others out there (mainly because most of the free texture/image sites all have those same few good images). Anyone even remotly involved with the industry can spot it a mile and a half away.
