Topic: Favorites folder controls inop in IE5.5 (Page 1 of 1)

I can't see anything in my favorites folder. When I try to bookmark a site I've already bookmarked, I'm asked if I'd like to overwrite an existing bookmark? Arrggh! I don't know what's in my favorites folder! ~stares around blankly, fondling a pear~

Hmm... I don't know what to say about that. You mean there is absolutely nothing in your favorites folder? Usually IE has a bunch of stuff there even before you add anything. Can you give anymore details? And put that pear down!!!

Nope, no-thing there except favorites folder. When I try to add a link again it asks if I want to over-ride a prior link, but no thing show up

what Microsoft OS and version are you running first of all?

when you do a search on 'favorites' does it find your favorites folder and if it does can you see the links and/or link folders there?

I'm running Win95 ver. 4.00.95a
It finds the main favorites folder but doesn't show any subfolders, even though it tells me they exist.
Keep in mind I've rebuilt this hard disk many times, starting from scratch, and maybe there's something wrong with the BIOS?

No, there are no problems with your BIOS. You see, all those *system* folders contain file named "desktop.ini" (it's hidden, but can be accessed from command prompt), and it contains some stuff which connects that folder with classes defined in system registry and in your case, that file is probably damaged (by damaged, I mean that it has some invalid stuff inside)...
