Well, the reason I had to use the span tag was that the a:link style is of a differnt size than the body style and I needed style attributes from both. the a: link is used for a bottom and top nav bar and is quite a bit smaller. as for the site, it is on a development server right now and I think the government is a bit leery about folks poking around the test servers. I don't know why I would need <p> tags as spacing and <br> work fine. But wouldn't the problem remain the same even within the <P></P> tags? the inline change from the a:link would override the p styles. I actually have quite a bit more style tags, just no used on this particular page. I am not allowed to use css as a rule, because gov't sites must be accessible to as many folks as possible (it's the law). I would love to use them, but have no real choice and must settle for document level <style>. I will try the <nbr>. thanks [img]http://members.home.net/2rugens/sigs/sig2a.gif[/img]
