Okay, I know, je suis un newbie... but, I was thinking about it the other day...
Most sites used to have an icon that would appear in the adress bar and in the favorites if you had added it. But now... not even newground's icon appears...
I heard (from a very unsecure source) that for security reasons, that icon association thingie got banned from most browsers. Is it true? Call me a baka and explain it, plz ^_^

FAVICONs are not banned. Simply said they are implemented in many different ways in different browsers. First web browser that had support for them was MSIE. Mozilla/NN6 will have full support for them in the next version (currently it doesn't support them). And last but not least, KDE Konqueror also supports FAVICONs (it has best support for them, by the way). Anyway, to answer your question why they disappear after some time (this is only related to MSIE). MSIE stores FAVICONs in your temporary internet files / internet cache and after some temporary internet files are flushed and all FAVICONs are deleted. And that's why they disappear until you bookmark those sites again. Sometimes MSIE can also go crazy and stop looking for FAVICONs...

Well, you can empty your temporary internet files and start over with bookmarking... But, this is just a temporary solution, because they will disappear again...

Although you may think it has nothing to do with temporary internet files, it actually does have something to do with them. Something went wrong/crazy with you MSIE and as I've suggest you can try to delete you temporary internet files and see whether MSIE will start picking up new FAVICONs or not. In my MSIE6 everything works fine, so there must be some problem on your side...

My question is not why they do temporarely disappear...
they're gone buddy, for good, at least from this browser point of view.

I've cleansed my temp files many many times.
With and without a specified program...
I think I got something from microsoft
Catch you later

Arthemis: I think what mr.maX was saying was that you need to bookmark the site all over again. If this happened with your upgrde from IE5 to IE6 then it is probably related to that so try bookmarking the site again.

Oh...
I found the problem.
It seemed to be the a shared favorites subdivision.
It related to opera.
As soon as I deleted that, the icons started appearing again.
Probably because I uninstalled opera without unchecking that function
Egads and hurray at the same time!!!

No, it's not working
It's more of a "working"
