There isn't anything you're doing wrong. Really! Paddings are supposed to be *added* to the width of an object (a div), and that's how Opera and Mozilla aka Netsape 6 do it. But IE doesn't. Have a look at [url=http://www.alistapart.com]www.alistapart.com[/url] , they have at least one article about that, you'll just have to search a bit. As for the solution, it's quite simpe: Put another div into your #goldenemitte (around the text), apply the padding to that one and everything's fixed.
