Nethermind: Yeah, I understand what you mean. Didn't mean to come down too hard on you there. :) How do you position things in CSS is a good question, and it really comes down to your design mentality: do you want everything in a precise location, down to the pixel, or are you willing to go with the flow? I'm more of a "flow" guy myself, and I concentrate more on making sure that the structure of my documents makes semantic sense. That being said, I still like to make a nice looking page, and there are a number of different ways to position your elements. Play around with the positioning values (of course), but don't neglect your margins, either. Also understand that a lot of things are still flaky on certain browsers (in other words, the browsers haven't caught up with the standards yet). This is why I didn't mention vertical-align. I like to stick with the basics--that way I don't have too many headaches when dealing with different browsers. That might not be a bad idea for someone starting out in CSS as well.
