Just keep in mind that it's a transition phase, and you should work on moving out of it and into separating style information (CSS) from content and structure information (HTML). As for mixing HTML with XHTML, I wouldn't recommend it, and it's not really necessary (once you know HTML, you basically know XHTML - it's just a few extra rules.)
