I don't think margin has any effect when you set it in the body. The margin is how much 'free space' there is around the object. So the body margin would set the amount of space around the body, but there is nothing there except the browser window. If you want to set a fixed amount of space between the browser border and the html-content set the padding instead of the margin. For ideas on how to create layouts using only css you should check out [url=http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/]Bluerobot[/url].
