Thanks Slime, yes it was a really excellent explanation. And here is the original poster, Kartis, again. I'm sorry I couldn't read your answer right away. My ISP's DNS was down for a day or so and I have been working a lot both day and night, so that's why I couldn't react on your reply immediately. I didn't know that I have to use capital letters with the first tag, the doctype tag. And, yes, the page you visited is validated at W3C with no errors or warnings, as are the other sites I included in my first post. Both html-code and CSS are validated. W3C Validation didn't tell me anything about the must of having a capital letter doctype tag. Kind of astonishing, if it can throw off the looks of a site, I think. I also had no clue that I have to add the second part of this doctype, the "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"-link. So, did I understand it right from W3C's page there, that this second part of the tag tells the browser to download the right stuff to make my site work as it is supposed to? I searched for "loose" on W3C's Google-search. After reading a few articles about loose coupling (?) I still don't understand anything about "loose". It feels like I am wandering around in a landscape very far from home when reading this. I will have to come back later in this issue when I have read up about it a little more. Right now I will just put it in with a smirk on my lips that hopefully will tell you that I understand fully (not!). :D But I DO understand that the real problem lies in what you are mentioning next, the box model padding. That's what's wrong! It's funny, but I read about the padding thing just a few hours ago, and was thinking that this could be the problem. I will go ahead and change the sizes of my boxes to make them fit better. Thank you so much for noticing this error! You saved my day, Slime! Kasta sten i glashus? Jag?
