With a strict doctype you can not. You have to do this instead: <p>Blah, blah, blah.</p> And THEN you use CSS for "presentation", like this: p { font-family: verdana; color: red; font-size: large; } Both acconplish the same thing, but the second one is recommended because it's standard-compliant, and it is required when using a strict doctype.
