Topic: A CSS bug, or at least I hope. (Page 1 of 1)

That is my web server where you can view the webpage.

Ok the problem is:

When my roomate looked at the webpage everything is fine ( WinXP, IE6 ) execpt when you scroll your mouse
over the menu, the menu kindof flinkers. Also the 'hour glass' will appears on the cursor.
I know that the javascript is not causing the error. My computer does not flicker but will show the 'hour glass',
but another friends computer does flicker. So far i'm 2 for 3. I am using WinXP with IE6 and my other
friend is using the same. The only differnece between all of our computers is the RAM and SPEED.
The error does not occur on Mozilla or Opera ( btw thanks for getting me outside the realm
on IE6 and into the realm of testing my code in other browser, its not really as hard as I thought. ) I am still
learning how to use proper CSS, I'm hoping that this is the issue. But I hear that IE6 has problems showing
PNG properly and all the images are PNG, could this be the problem? Anyway thanks for your help.

That menu doesn't do a dern thing for me in FB .7. Not a single dern thing.

I looked at that link in NS7 on Win98 and the menu doesn't do anything.

About your flicker problem you might look at this thread. They have been discussing the flicker problem for the last several days and seem to have come up with a solution. I'm not sure that it's the same problem your having, but it may help.

I have seen the web page on the post that you posted (say that 5 times fast ). Anyhow if you
scroll over that menu quickly, i still get the problem even with that fix. So this really doesn't
fix the problem. Thanks for the post and keep em coming. )

Also, please view this page with IE, because this is obviously a IE issue.

The problem:
Go to (Tools » Internet Options » Temporary Internet Files » Settings) and
select "Every visit to page" for your temp files settings in your IE to see
the flickerings.

The Fix:
Change the settings to "Automatically" and put the same background-image behind the image
that flickers.

I also do not see the flicker with ie 6.

I have no idea what could be causing it, but I suspect you may be right in thinking it's related to the PNG files.

The only other time I have seen ie 'flicker' like you describe is when there are issues of background images/css rollovers...

IE seems to have issues with DHTML-related behaviors - whenever something changes (ie. in the case of an a:hover with a different background image), it tries to reload the image. Really dumb! ..

Pixy's fix for that was shifting the position of the background image, where one image has both the normal and "active" states. That solves the image swapping / 'reloading' flicker problem I think, but still has some odd behavior.

I would be interested to see some other thoughts on IE's strange CSS behavior. On my site (and lots of others with CSS rollovers and complex layouts), links take a while just to highlight (a:hover) - it's like a slow redraw or something, where Mozilla and Opera etc. are perfectly fine (fast). What's going on is beyond me!
