InI: Itreied to have a look at these at home when I saw the link over in another forum and despite the fact that I know I installed Shockwave 8.5 I got messages popping up all over the place asking if I wanted to upgrade and if I wanted to register - it all ended solidly crashing the laptop I was using.

I'm checking this on a fairly low grade computer (which I can't upgrade plugins on for some reason) and I get not an awful lot.

Sorry I can't be much help - I'll wander off an try another, better computer later but it demontsrates the distinct problems with this kind of technology.

I hate director to, it so much a pain in the ass to work with and the browser plug in crashes if not the right one, plus it very resourceful too.

Ok I have tried them both and this is what I get:-

First link:
Win95 + IE5.5 + SW8.5 = fine
Win2K + IE6 + SW8.5 = fine

Second link:
Win95 + IE5.5 + SW8.5 = crashes IE
Win2k + IE6 +SW8.5 = Fine

SW is shockwave by the way.

I know about clients loving Director, I would love to know WHY it's crap, any think is better than this crap. It is good for CD ROMs as this is going to be, but for the web it's crap compared to flash and what other codes can do together. Well that?s my opinion on this shockwave.

I have a very fast, fairly new computer and the page is downloading shockwave.
Tedius boring and do I really want all these plugins cluttering up my drive. This is
the problem with this technology. A very wistful tone.. "I really wanted to see a
new page".. will check back..maybe

InI: That experience was annoying as f**k and I won't be going through that again in a hurry (have they no sense at MM? Putting someone through that just to get the plugin - I know I'll be hitting cancel next time).

Anyway your things:

Planets - nice effect although you can see the join on the main planet.

Main - I'm not really too sure as there isn't much content. There are some antialiasing problems with the blue images but I like the rather unconventional look. I'm not sure the scrollers onclick colour is quite right though. I would also make full use of the vertical bar unless you've got something else planned. So I like the look but would have to see some content in there to see how it would work.

Good luck hooking all the other goodies up to it.

InI: I wasn't wrong the upgrade of the Shockwave player does say that it takes 10-15 on a 56k modem - I can't really see this taking off as a web based thing (people are just going to hit cancel). It looks like I've got a wait on my hands so I'll have to get back to you (or check it out tomorrow as its late)!!

Ini: I'm back after that bloody plugin business (I can't quite believe I did that twice in one day!! Well I suppose technically its now tomorrow). OK your page is looking OK but they images with the scan lines could do with some attention - the faded corners aren't quite faded enough so they merge with the background (on a TFT screen anyway) and the inner sharp corners look jagged esp. the top one (I can screencap it but I think you should be able to spot which ones). It all looks good (although there are things that need addressing) but I'd need to see some content to get a better idea of how it works. There is probably a little too much dark grey so some colour might be called for.

[Emp edit: and I'm wondering what a 'prototype commerce platform' is]

InI: I think you might be suffering from scanline madness!! The top and bottom segments were pushing it a bit (too much for GRUMBLE clearly) but doing the same to that picture seems over the top. Its not clear what the various areas are going to be used for - in this kind of thing I suspect it may be better to keep the numbers of areas down so that you don't risk overwhelming the user - you've clear got a better overview of what you want and where this is going than I do so the comments may not be relevant. If it is a competition try something a little different. I do like the changes you've made to that left hand scrolling bar and perhaps a more decaying/techno feel might work nicely - pos. making the interface more like some kind of corroding display terminal (or is that so 1998?). So as well as some of the previous problems still existing (the straght inside lines of the top and bottom grey scanlined boxes) I'm not sure where you are taking this. I think the changes you've made look much better though so keep going.

Hope that made sense!!

InI: I'm still of the opinion that scanlines are cool so I'd say try to tone them down (although as the client seems to like them I would keep some). As I say I like the look of that left scrolling area and would try and work that theme into the rest of the page. Bozen use a lot of blue too so I would try and reflect that more in your design - the glaring problem for me are those 'inner' straight edges on the scanline boxes - they really need fixing.

One thought is that although it is a web page you might get better feedback for this in the multimedia section - what do you think? I can move this over their - they might have better ideas on this (its fine here but as it is pretty important you should go for the best advice and I know I'm not overly familiar with the medium).

InI: As you've got a delay then it might be a good idea to move the thread over there - I'm sure they all look in here (and on the others forums) but it might help jog them into supplying some of their expert opinions. I'm sure it will help.

Anyone reading this and wanting to give their opinions should look for the thread over in the multimedia section.
