Topic: Basic steps to a destroyed city (Page 1 of 1)

If anyone can help me it would be sweet. Basically what i need to know is how to design and create a city that has been destroyed from asteroids, you know, where buildings are blown apart and you can see the understructure of them.....kinda like in "AI" Manhattan City where buildings are collapsed. Its hard to explain in a way, I am talking about a 3d scene where the camera flys over a city that has been abandoned and blown up. This is for a film Im redoing from a while ago (the first one i ever did back in 98\99. ANd im talking about doing them in apps like Max and Maya.....that sort of thing....any ideas as to the steps to creating the buildings, backgrounds, environment, etc>>??

well, first of all i would model the bulidings etc. with basic shapes like cubes, rectangels,...
then i would go to the camera movement and finally the texturing, special effects.

i dont know maya, but max is a very good idea for this.
for the destroyed bulidings you can use vertex or mesh modification on the objects.
but most of the work is the lightning and special effects like fire.

I would start with primitives (or simple meshes), then I'd make a 3d 'object' of the asteroids' path...

after that, just boolean those paths out of the meshes and use textures and simple little meshes to achieve the look of debris...

Yeah its clear.....ill see what i can do. Im still working on that website I mentioned when i first arrived here. There are two: a website for a modelling club that Skaarjj and I are in charge of and another one where its will be based on a special effects company I started for the film i was just talking about and it will also contain stuff in relation to this film and how everything was done. This is in hopes of achieving my dream of having a webpage and maybe going the way Blair With did with its web-presence and climb to popularity. Which is why im redoin it coz it was made with a few excerpts from other movies in it for certain scenes......so I have to redo everthing......there is sooooo much....so much fun as well!!

Very fuckin' funny. I just graduated High School, and so my only connection to the net that I could access all the time is gone for a while. I have a net connection at home, but it belongs to my Dad, and he's a bit tight arsed about letting me use it...oh well, I start working next year, and should be able to afford my own connection. Then the times of the Asylum can start again!

Dont woory about it, just me doing the usual. The usual of saying Skaarjj is up himself, its a mate thing. I said it to him when he typed it even! To me it just appeared as egotistical saying that the good times can start when he comes back. It depends on what sort of context you take it in........thats all!
