I am looking to coverting some old time music to digital perserving the sound of it. * imagining listening to shirley temple croon out the song 'Good Ship lollipop' out my computer speakers.....*

Somehow you have to get the analog sound to digital. I would guess there are 105 ways to do this, but this is how I would do it (with my current setup):

1)plug turntable or reciever output (RCA) into the audio of video capture card input
2)Record audio into editing program
3)Save audio file as .wav
4)Use 1 of many available freeware/shareware to convert .wav to CD-A
5)Burn to disc using a CD burning tool

That's all, folks.

if you are capturing directly from the output of your turntable, you have to be carefull, cause it is using another amplitude, which could cause a terrible distortion of the sound

i recommend using the output of your amplifier.
