i'm trying to play a gif in flash but want to make it a movie first, so i created new symbol, import gif, put action>play in first frame and inserted it into a single keyframe in the main scene... yet it does not play the gif... anyone help?

you need to be sure you have a stop action on that key frame (unless its just one frame movie)where your movie clip is(on main stage)..... also you dont need a play action on firstframe of movie clip...... also make sure you have enough frames on the main stage to cover your assests (so to speak)..........

should werk *srug*

I don't know what you mean by "play a gif". If you want an animated gif to play in Flash, it isn't going to happen. Put the animated gif in the html and the the browser play it.

If you have a plain non-animated gif, you can't expect Flash to know what "play" means. Does it move? Does it fade out? Does it shrink or spin?

You've gotta *make* the movie before you can play it.

if you have an animated gif you want to bring into a flash movie i'd use something like imageready and save out each frame individually then import each of those. importing an animated gif won't work in flash.

that's not true.
at least it worked for me.

i just imported the gif in the library and dragged it onto my scene.

flash mx automatically made keyframes for every frame of the gif.
