Any ideas on what are the best encoders/rippers out there? |

the quality of the mp3 depends on the codec you use. LAME is said to be one of the best. |

I think that Fraenhofer IIS has the best encoder. They were one of them who developed mp3. |

which is the best decoder is a discussion worth, but it isnt said that frauenhofer is the best. but afaik frauenhofer invented the first mp3 codec many years ago and then the mpeg group took it over. |

There is an encoder named BladeEnc. It uses the same algorithm to pack the sound data as Fraunhofer IIS. This encoder is illegal in some country because Frauenhofer has a patent on the algorithm. Some think this is the best encoder because it is as good as Frauenhofer and its free (in some countries)! |

I think it was BladeEnc that I used in the past, I just called it blade though. I did not realise tha it was illegal anywhere however. Ignorance is no excuse. |
