ok the story behind this is i want to show my capabilities off in a portfolio, i am pretty good with flash 5 and i also have director 8.5 shockwave studio.

so here is my question my portfolio will consist of examples of web sites and images etc, now i want to use a flash or a shockwave interface, i like flash but i also like director and am pretty handy with lingo, the one thing i like about shockwave is the power of it especially lingo and the size of the output files it produces, but it hasnt got the user base as far as installed plugins go...

anyone here used both and got input for me this will be web based, i have done several multimedia projects mainly cdrom based with director before but this will be my first port over to the web.

First off, I don't use Director because I do mostly web. When I do go to stand-alone I still use Flash. But I understand your dilema. You want to showcase your work and half of it is with Director.

The first question should be "who is your audience"? Are they looking for Shockwave content or Flash Content.

I would suggest building your web based portforlio with Flash, but include links to your Shockwave work with an explanation of what's involved in order to view it over the web. Maybe make a detection script that checks their system for Shockwave and displays that infomation back in Flash.

If they don't want to install Shockwave to view certain content, give them the abiltity to request a CD of your Shockwave work. If this is what they're looking for, they'll be willing to wait to see it in the mail.

hehehe i was thinking actually of doing something along those lines or having a link to a shockwave area and a flash area, i wanted to build the gallery in shockwave as the file sizes are incredible and then maybe have a link to some flash stuff i already have in places on the web, the main issue is i want to showcase my lingo so i can offer a web based option that will port over easy enough to cd and vica versa, i guess i need to get a bit more adept at actio scripting in flash if i want to do it the flash way. anyway i would embed the test for the shock wave and flash plugins in the default page and warn people that there is that content there and link em to the right d/l points..flash not to much of a prob as i said as now widely used and most peeps have it installed, shockwave though not that big now as flash is now dominating the market but shockwave is great for some web based stuff
