Make hovers on buttons animate?

ahm. how far are you already?
do you have the button with a normal mouse-over already? and what do you mean with animate?

i'd show my work like a good boy but i dont know how to script it, as you may remember grumbs the width and height aren't shown even when specified

ok i am working on a project for school in flash, (like a good boy) and i was gonna make like a mini webpage on the dominican republic (spanish 1). yea i got the regular button and i can make it hover a different color but i cannot make it hover and animate, i remember kretts helped me on this once but i couldnt find that thread because this forum doesn't have any archives

anyway i think to save the time (and the grief) i won't make my buttons animate, but for my refrence i would like to learn how, by animate i mean like a button fading to a color when it hovers...

Can you make a tween with the visual effect you want, and put that in the second (hover) frame on a second layer of the button symbol?

I seem to recall animation and a button tutorials in the help section (Packaged with the product).
It should reveal all you need to know.
Learn em both and apply knowledge to new idea...

just make an animation tween after the four reserved frames at the beginning.
then in the over frame put the action
gotoAndPlay(5);
and in the last frame of the tween
gotoAndPlay(3 or whatever);

Wha???

Grumble - how does the button get *back* to, let's say, frame 3 when you mouse down? Or frame 1 when you mouse off the button? I don't care much for that suggestion I don't think. Try putting the tween in frame 2 of a second layer in the button symbol and tell us what happens.

i just played around with buttons again, and why can i not apply actions to the 4 frames in buttons?

because the different states of a button aren't really frames. you could apply actions to a mc inside a button state, but the button itself can only react to something as a whole.
