Topic: Capturing video and its consequences (Page 1 of 1)

I managed to hook my VCR up to my computer to capture some footage of a film Im making, and while it is being played it is displayed as the following link shows. Even when make a file out of it in Studio DC10 it still has those annoying blue lines and dots. The tape itself is fine, works like a gem, just these lines occur in capturing and permanently stuff up the captured footage. Is it a case of a video codec problem?

which codec are you using?

but since you say, you are getting this also during the capturing, its more a tuning question.
which hardware device do you use for capturing? it looks like you are on the wrong channel or frequency...

Well whaddya know....I fixed it already! You were pretty much right Grumble, I was on the wrong video standard, SECAM instead of Pal or Ntsc. Thanks for reply quickly though

Just a question.....my rendered video seems to come out vertically stretched heaps. I changed the settings to width and heighth of 540 by 540. Frames a second: 25. Quality: 100 and data rate: 1800 kbytes\sec. Im also using the Motion JPEG codec.
Now that I have rendered using these settings, seen I have no idea how this will look on TV, will this be the correct size to be displayed on TV? Because this film will only be seen on TV's and that so it kinda matters

what medium are you gonna use to display it on the TV? vcr i guess.

well, therefore you gotta get the digital video from the pc to the tape somehow. i guess you are doing this with your tv-output of your graphic-card. so, just hook up the TV to that output and look at it. if the video is displayed correctly on your pc monitor it's probably also going to be correct on the TV. then just record what you see on the TV like a normal recording.

(for audio you probably have to hook up an extra cable from the soundcard to the vcr)

here's some information on PAL/NTSC from vcdhelp.com:
NTSC is a Video/TV standard mostly common in USA and PAL is a Video/TV standard in the rest of the world, the main differences are that NTSC has more frames/sec, 29,97 fps than PAL 25 fps but then NTSC has some less horizontal lines than PAL.

PAL:
352 x 288 pixels
25 frames/second

NTSC:
352 x 240 pixels
29,97 frames/second
23,976 frames/second NTSC Film

Thanks heaps Grumble. I had to ring Skaarjj about something tonight and I asked him as well about it just in case you took a while in replying. Yeah Im planning to present it on VHS tape played on VCR through standard TV. At the moment things are going well except I better shut the comp down as there is a fierce storm here right now and it already made my comp re-start itself........so better to be safe than soory and also get an early night for once! Will do Im in the process of making 3 films for my final year of college for studio art. Im pretty sure Im the first in the school to do something like this. Anyhoo, once they get up and moving then Ill stick them up on some website of mine or create one. But the asylum will be hearing about them in the near future.
