UBB Help
One possibility: using Maya or 3dsMax with Shockwave. Shockwave is a big Flash that can include and use several formats: Quicktime VR, Mpeg, Mp3, Flash and Action Script, 3d... Due to a little help from IBM, it is a nice tool. Fast for production at least, would require some Lingo 3d experience, which is easy to acquire since it is close to action script. With Flash, you'll meet a couple of limitations, and building the sphere will become more of a coding exploit (you could use movieclip symbols as polygons to map faces, slow in execution, shitty/blocky look, etc..) You can ask questions about the code, action script is easy/funny. :D! But in two words, it boils down to: - Building a sphere geometry. - Building a fast deform routine to map symbols to the vertices of the sphere. - Writing and erasing dinamically movieclips, in order to get/release the needed facets for the sphere. - Optimising to the fullest. An alternate option is to use a Java applet with a 3d studio scene, Click the first image at www.wapod.com for a demo. Or this, better: http://home.bip.net/flossy/java/index2.htm http://www.gaffer.org/interactive/ http://www.tu-ilmenau.de/~jaw/ There are a couple of vrml, plug-ins, etc.. alternatives, but the core 3d for the web is listed above.
