Ok, "good choice", sort of:
Building a fast deform routine to map symbols to the vertices of the sphere.
It means in Flash, you should take quad surfaces, and distort them to arrange them as 3d "tiles" of your 3d volume (it means avoid that heavy work if not into coding, it's intended to sound "meaningless"). It means all that extra code for blocky, slow 3d anims.. Next option, Shockwave, which I found to have the following limitations: - the interface for 3d sucks: you got to use code (lingo), anyway you do it. - use the software renderer, please do. Chances are that otherwise, your shockwave 3d movies will try to detect some graphic card, and meet bugs if there is none (try to use one even if there is none=no display, no go). Other than that, lingo 3d is quite easy and the whole Shockwave 3d, easy to understand and complete. For an extra control, I chose to learn Java, but to each his own. Then, well, hit google, "shockwave 3d tutorial", and take a look at Macromedia's tutorial pages, with lots of downloadable samples (which got me started), and this: www.developerdispatch.com And check the usual "lingo tutorial" sites, like flashkit.
