Just a little problem... when applying a filter to a section of my clip... do I need to export the movie before I see the result or does it only apply to a single frame cause I used the horizontal flip but the section of the clip doesn't flip. I'm using Premiere 6.0 if that info is required..

yes.

preview is only available with selected frames.

edit: tip:
to reduce exporting time (which is maybe the reason of your question) use a fast codec like huffyuv and export only the clip you need and not the whole movie.

Actually, there are two ways to see the effect of a filter without exporting:

1. hold alt as you click (and drag) the cursor around.

2. On the very top bar in the timeline, there are two little arrows pointing at each other. Put these arrows so that they surround the section of the timeline that you want to preview, and then press "enter". This will render that section of the clip so that you can watch it as though you had exported it.
