hi
I am beginner in video editing and would like to try out some cool FX in video....can anyone recommend some tutorials/resouces for video editing in Premiere 6 ?

Well, appart form the 30 or so here: http://www.tutorialfind.com/tutorials/adobe/premiere/ I can't rightly help you there but you might want to look into Adobe After Effects. That's like Photoshop for film and then some.

As for resources in video editing... eerr, go watch some movies, being inspired always helps. Although if you looking for general film related stuff then you might want to check out your local news agent and have a snoop at some of the magazines. I found some of them extreamly helpfull when I had absolutly no idea what I was doing. Failing that you should also check your local library, there's mountains of resources and books about almost every aspect of film. I'm sure they'd have a couple on digital video editing that'd come in quite handy for just about any project.

well due to some err.., technical limitations, Im gonna hav to do with premiere for now ...but next stop After effects.
Thanks for that link ..its good ...helps a lot if u've got ideas in ur head and gotta find some way to get them onto the screen....

well, they're 2 rather different programs for different purposes. premiere is just an editor, you can do some transitions between shots and that sort of thing but that's about it. after effects is a video effects/compositing package used to create motion graphics and composite 2d and 3d elements, treat video footage to get certain effects, etc. make sense?

Yups, that sure makes sense...so can After effects be used for editing as well ?? Or is the norm to use Premiere for editing the footage and importing it to After Effects for visual effects ?

There isn't really any sort of order you want to use them in but if your output from primer is compressed in any form then you should do your special effects first as blue/green screen compositing is a bitch to do if you have compression artefacts. But if you?re outputting as a DV stream or you want to process something on a global level then you'd use it afterwards.

Although my process usually goes something like this:

> Cut rough master in Final Cut Pro. (Final Cut is basically just like Premier; I just think it?s a nicer app)
> Identify the sections that need special processing and go back to final cut to fine tune the editing. Export that sequence as a DV stream (or any un-compressed format or your choosing).
> Process special features in after effect then take that sequence back to Final cut Pro.

Although for simple tweaks like contrast or colour compensation between footage from different cameras I'd usually use Final Cut Pro. Although Photoshop comes in handy when you need to colour match footage. If you?re using two cameras then make sure you get each camera to film one particular object in your scene from the exact same position so you can export stills to PS and then use the eyedropper to get the numbers you need to compensate your colour channels with.

you can use after effects for editing, but its clunky. if your budget was limited i'd buy after effects and look at a cheaper editing app like video factory or something similar for under $100. there's even a free editing app out there called virtual dub that's supposed to be really good, tho i haven't used it personally. if you've already got premiere then i'd say go with that, just start learning it and look at after effects as you have a need for it.
