Cool Edit 2000 runs $70 USD. There is a demo version that allows you some limited usage (basically two options) that you can download and see if it has the capabilities you need. I don't know if Cool Edit Pro has a trial version. I know less than you do about sound editing...so I'm hopeful that this helps, if nothing else I got to blabber for a while.
