hi, i've downloaded a free template to learn how to make my own in the future, learn the iframes, sizes, matches etc ...

but now i notice that the header exists of 3 different pictures. Of course i'd like to know how i start something like this.

Do I make them separate? or do i make 1 big picture and move the layers to another one after making it?

Any comments are more then welcome, cuz i'm dreaming of this since i have photoshop

regards

This should probably go in the photoshop forum, I think. (One of the forum moderators might move it there soon)

In any event, I'm having problems trying to understand what you want to do. You've only given us an idead of what you think you should do, but you've not told us or explained what it is your trying to accomplish. Also, posting (or linking to) images and or HTML page examples of your work in progress goes a low way to help us understand what you want in order for us to give you the correct advice.

At a blind guess, I'd say you would probably want to look into the "slice" tool in photoshop. That tool is designed to slice up a photoshop image and export it as a series of different web optomized images (throught the 'save for web' feature) to use on your website.

It seems he's referring to those pre-fab graphics web page templates that used to be all over the web.

If that's the case, yes you want to create it all as one image, and then use the Slice tool as Dracusis mentioned.

Ok, these are the pieces of the header: When you look at them in html, they all fit together like one piece. So i think you understand (guessed right) me by telling me i need that tool in photoshop. It's probably imageready you mean, right?

Thanks for the reply and once again: sorry I posted in the wrong section, i noticed it afterwards

the slice tool is in photoshop, and creates information that IR can use to automatically cut the image up.

You can also just drag out guides and use your marquee tool to cut it up all in PS.

Yeah, the marquee tool is also very usefull for this kind of thing.

I stopped using the slice tool when I started designing with CSS. Nowadays when I'm moving a design from PS to HTML I just stamp all the layers togther (win shortcut key: ctrl+alt+shift+e <- kinaa like "flattern all" but it leaves all the layers in tact.) and cut it up using my guides and save the images one at a time. Which seems to be a much faster and less fiddly process on a whole.

Oh and you don't actually need image ready to use slices. In fact, I've never used image ready when working with slices. I just made them in Photoshop and saved for web from there.

Interesting. I've never actually used slices. Have always preferred to just use guides and the marquee. =)
