Relain Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: westernesse Insane since: Jul 2000	posted 12-16-2001 23:44 simple question this one: how can i change the colour of nurbs surfaces [in 3d studio max 3.1], i've been trying but i've only been able to change the colour of the whole nurbs curve/surface object i can't figure out how to change the colour of surfaces within the main object. anyone got any ideas? Also is there anyway to get the animation scrub bar and all that stuff to go away. i know that 2 and 3 will hide the control box and the top bar but i can't get rid of the one at the bottom. its not like i use it much, except when i press the animation button by accident and get myself in a right pickle cheers folks. >> Relain >>

In the upper-right of the dialogue, you can change the colour of the surface. But this only changes it for the editor. If you want to change it for rendering, use the Material Editor and Diffuse colour (or whatever it's called). I don't know about changing colours of seperate "sub-surfaces". Relain Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: westernesse Insane since: Jul 2000	posted 12-20-2001 20:48 what are nurbs usefull for? not sure, they're not really 'cool' anymore in the 3dworld. all the big names seem to use maya's subdivision surfaces. i kind of think of them as an analytical solution to the problem of surfaces and curves, they can give you a perfect representation of basically anything you want. main thing is you can't really join them togther very well so branching stuff is kinda hard. which is why they've kinda been sidelined. also while you have a lovely analytical solution in the window when you want to render you have to go back to a numerical solution, not so pretty. still im working on a head using nurbs just to see what happens. i'm stuck on ears, i don't know if i should try and make them from the surface or just sort of weld some on. cos as is i'd be going 'against the grain' of the U -V of the model.
